Killing of traffic inspector in Quetta
QUETTA: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party MPA Dr Abdul Majeed Khan Achakzai, whose vehicle ran over a traffic policeman in Quetta earlier this week, was presented in the court twice on Saturday.
During his first appearance, the MPA was seen being taken to the court without any handcuffs and also misbehaved with members of the media. The MPA was not sent on remand during this appearance, however, when he was presented in the court the second time, Achakzai was sent on police remand for five days, Geo News reported.
While expressing anger over coverage of the incident, Achakzai said the media could not obtain the video of the explosion that took place in Quetta on Friday, but got their hands on accident’s footage.
"Had the police called [the media persons] beforehand? Shameless people," said the MPA.
The MPA has been arrested in connection with his vehicle running over Traffic Sub-Inspector Haji Ataullha when it was speeding along GPO Chowk intersection in Quetta on June 20. Sub-Inspector succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to the hospital.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, following which police took action against the death of their colleague. However, allegedly under pressure to 'hush up' the issue, the police initially registered a criminal case at the Civil Lines Police Station against ‘unidentified persons.’ Achakzai was elected to the provincial assembly from Killa Abdullah on PB-13.
