Malir District win 5-a-side Hockey League
KARACHI: Rizwan Khan scored a sudden death goal to give Malir District a thrilling victory in the final of the Olympian Shahbaz Ahmed 5-a-side Inter-District Hockey League against Central District at KHA Sports Complex here on Friday night.
The match was a 10-10 draw at full-time, while extra-time also ended in a 1-1 draw.
The winners were decided after four sudden death contests with each team made to field a player less after every contest.
Earlier during regulation time, Rizwan scored six goals, while Asim Khan and Faheem Khan scored two goals apiece for Malir District.
For Central District, Ali Hussain scored five goals, Mohammad Imran netted two goals, while Imran Khan, Anas Siddiqui and Akbar Khan contributed with one goal each.
Asim Khan was the top-scorer of the league with 19 goals and won a motorcycle along with a cash prize of Rs10,000. Arsal Ejaz was declared Player-of-the-Tournament and was awarded with a motorcycle and Rs10,000.
The Karachi Hockey Association (KHA), which had organised the league as part of Olympic Day celebrations, gave away cash prize of Rs100,000 to the winning team, while runners-up received Rs50,000. Each participating team of the league were also presented with Rs25,000.
