The chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and damage to public property due to rains in Punjab.

According to a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that steps should be taken forthwith to avoid more losses as well as for the rehabilitation of the damaged property.

Bilawal said that the loss of precious lives was regretful.

He directed the PPP workers in the Punjab to help rain victims in their respective areas.

According to reports, the ongoing spell of heavy rains has claimed the lives of at least nine people in different parts of Punjab.

Three labourers were killed when the roof of a dilapidated house collapsed in Lahore’s Raiwind Road area on Wednesday. A worker of Municipal Corporation Lahore was electrocuted, while four people, including children, were wounded in another roof collapse incident in Green Town.

In Ahmedpur Sial, a father and his son were killed after being buried under the rubble of a collapsed private school wall. Another death was reported from the Ghausia Chowk area of Pirmahal where a woman, Kalsoom Akhtar, died after the roof of her house collapsed.

The power supply was suspended in the town as strong winds accompanying the thunderstorm damaged power pylons and uprooted hundreds of trees, besides destroying the cotton crop and orange orchards.
