KARACHI: Pakistani youngster Mahin Aftab Qureshi clinched girls’ singles title in the second-leg of the ITF Asian 14 and Under Tennis Championships Division II 2015, which concluded in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Wednesday.
Mahin overpowered Anika Seneviratne of Sri Lanka in straight sets by 6-4, 6-4 in the summit clash.
Mahin is the first under-14 girl in the history of Pakistan tennis to have won the ITF Asian championship title. She was also the runner-up in the first leg of the championship.
President Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Salim Saifullah Khan, Secretary Muhammad Khalid Rehmani and the Management Committee of PTF congratulated Mahin over her excellent performance in both tournaments.
“She played brilliantly and we congratulate her on her glorious achievement. We hope she continues to win laurels for the country,” Khalid Rehmani told PPI.
Pakistan boys also performed well in the championships. Huzaifa Abdul Rehman secured ninth position, Hamza Bin Rehan came 12th and Amin Shafi occupied the 18th position.
“Such events will give the young players exposure and experience and hopefully they will be able to play well in future international tournaments as well,” Khalid added.
