KARACHI: Two goals from Mohammad Shujaat helped Karachi overpower Hyderabad recording a 4-2 victory and win the preliminary round of NBP PHF Under-25 Inter-Region National Hockey Championship at Sukkur Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Earlier on the day, Larkana thrashed Sukkur Region by 4-0 secure third position.
Both teams from Karachi and Hyderabad amused the spectators at a jam packed stadium with their aggressive moves and skills. Karachi forwards made a number of attacks on their opponents and created penalty corners. Full-back Shujaat successfully availed both penalty corners and struck the goal post.
Forward Arif and left-out Waseem Aslam scored one goal each. From Hyderabad centre forward Adnan and right-in Khizer scored one goal each.
Karachi’s Waseem was declared best player of the tournament.
The tournament was a part of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Development Plan to spot upcoming talent for their future exposure in international hockey. The next phases of the tournament will be played in Khyber Pakhtunkhwh from February 10.
