For commuters going home from work on Thursday, the roads presented a sea of long queues as they attempted to get out of the city centre, Geo News reported.

According to traffic police officials, there was bumper-to-bumper traffic in the evening, but personnel on duty tried their best to keep the vehicles moving.  Paramilitary Rangers too were seen helping traffic police in directing motorists near Shaheen Complex as the rush hour flow poured in from II Chundrigar Road.

Traffic cops told Geo News that if vehicles continued to move and there was no logjam, commuters should expect to reach their destinations after a delay of not more than 30 minutes. But most commuters faced delays that lasted up to an hour.

According to officials at the DIG Traffic office, heavy vehicles put pressure on the traffic flow after good transporters ended their strike on Wednesday. Traffic congestion was reported around the port area, Gul Bai, Mauripur, Jinnah Bridge and West Wharf. Other thoroughfares and areas that witnessed snarl-ups included University Road, Jehangir Road, II Chundrigar Road, MT Khan Road, Sher Shah, ICI Bridge, Hasan Square, Stadium Road, Aisha Manzil, PIDC, Keamari and KICT Gate 15.
