‘Go Nawaz go’ and ‘go Zardari go’ chanted in Sindh PA
Opposition protests non-provision of development funds
KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly’s proceedings had to be adjourned twice on Monday after the opposition lawmakers caused a commotion in the House over delays in the release of development funds.
The legislators claimed that their constituencies were being constantly ignored by the government and that funds were meant only for constituencies of blue-eyed MNAs and MPAs of the province.
The House reverberated with slogans as the opposition tore up copies of the day’s agenda and staged a sit-in near the rostrum of the PA speaker, where Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza was chairing the session.
The sudden commotion caught the treasury lawmakers unawares. The only way they could retaliate against the onslaught was with counter-sloganeering.
The deputy speaker first adjourned the sitting for 10 minutes. After the House reassembled, the sloganeering -- 'go Nawaz go' and 'go Zardari go' -- continued in the House, so she had to call it a day and adjourn the proceedings till Tuesday.
