HARIPUR: Authorities have suspended a station house officer, an assistant sub-inspector and five other policemen and also registered a murder case against them for allegedly beating a woman to death during a raid in Darwesh village, the police said on Saturday.

The officials of the City Police Station said that a raiding party headed by station house officer Bashir Khan, ASI Munir Khan and their subordinates on Friday afternoon conducted raid at the house of Muhammad Munir, an alleged drug-pusher of Darwesh village.

The police claimed to have recovered liquor from Munir’s shop moments before the house raided.

The police said that during the raid, Naseem Bibi, wife of Munir’s brother, allegedly tried to shut the door but the police party forcibly barged into the room and no sooner they entered the room, the woman fell down unconsciousness.

She was removed to Women and Children’s Hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead.

However, cause of her death was not yet known as the autopsy report was not compiled by the doctors till the filing of this report.

The police and doctors said that the circumstantial evidence suggested the women died of cardiac failure.

However, family sources claimed that the station house officer and his subordinates forcibly opened the door that hit the woman in the head, which led to her death.

Meanwhile, the bereaved family took the body to the road and protested against the police, suspending traffic for a couple of hours.

They demanded suspension of the policemen, registration of murder case against them and judicial inquiry of the case.

The DPO later ordered suspension of station house officer Bashir Khan, ASI Munir Khan and five of their subordinates while a criminal case under section 322 of the PPC was also registered against them, but no arrest was made till the filing of this report.
