The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) rejected media reports that questions were leaked before the examination of Urdu and Islamic Studies started on Friday.
BIEK Chairman Professor Inam Ahmed said television channels showed question papers on screen 15 minutes after the examination of Urdu started.
He said the board members were told that questions and their answers were shared through Whatsapp after the examination had started in classrooms, but the board had no means to catch the culprits independently. “We have decided to contact the FIA Cyber Crime Cell so that the culprits could be arrested and punished.”
He said television channels were blaming the BIEK for not taking serious measures to prevent mishaps that even did not take place.
However, news reporters and students said that multiple-choice questions of Islamic Studies paper, which held during the second shift, had been leaked before the exam like the question paper of Urdu was available outside examination centres before the exam started in the morning shift.
Talking to The News, some BIEK officials, who requested anonymity, admitted that questions were leaked but the management insisted on holding the examination.
The BIEK started the first phase of the higher secondary school certificate, Part-I and II (class-XI and XII), Annual Examinations-2017 on Friday for regular and private candidates of the pre-medical, pre-engineering, general science, home economics, medical technology and commerce disciplines.
It is learnt that wrong admit cards were issued to some students, with pictures of opposite genders on their admit cards. Many admit cards were issued only a day before the exams started.
The BIEK management is also being blamed for authorising centres that had been blacklisted by the board’s previous administration. The BIEK has also been criticised for changing few examination centres overnight. A large number of examination centres do not have electricity and drinking water facilities.
A board official said four students were found using unfair means and an action had been taken against them.
