Hot weather, contaminated water spread diseases in Nawabshah
NAWABSHAH: Epidemic diseases have surfaced in Nawabshah as a result of severe hot weather and supply of contaminated water for drinking purposes. More than 100 patients having stomach-ache and vomiting, including minor children, approached the Peoples Medical Hospital. The temperature on Thursday was recorded at 47 degrees Celsius and the supply of contaminated drinking water was adding to the miseries of people, making every third person a patient of Hepatitis.
On the other hand, Asia’s largest water filter plant has failed to meet the drinking water requirements of citizens. It was constructed at a cost of Rs1.5 billion and is consuming Rs8.8 million annually on maintenance expenses but it is supplying sewerage-mixed water.
Prof of Medicine Dr Saleem Faiz said that contaminated water was the main source of spreading typhoid, pneumonia, stomach disorders and Hepatitis A, B and C. On the other hand, the citizens said that the water supply lines were laid only for posh areas.
