PESHAWAR: A militant was killed and another two were arrested in a clash with the police during a search operation in the limits of Topi Police Station on Wednesday, police officials said.
The officials through a statement said the police conducted a targetted operation in militancy-hit area of Malikabad in the district. The Swabi Police along with the cops from the Elite Force and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and the anti-terrorism units of Mardan and Nowshera districts took part in the operation.
The slain militant was identified as Abu Saeed, a resident of Malikabad. He was wanted by the police in a number of terrorism-related cases. The press release said the slain militant was involved in the killings of Dr Yar Muhammad, retired head constable Mir Ghani, retired army soldier Khan Afzal and the indiscriminate fire on a police van.
The police recovered a Kalashnikov rifle and hand-grenades from the possession of Abu Saeed. The police also arrested two militants after the clash, it said, adding, they were identified as Maqsood and Farooq, residents of Malikabad.
The two militants were proclaimed offenders and wanted by the police in connection with the attack on a police van. Two pistols, 20 cartridges and an improved explosive device weighing 2.5 kilogram were also recovered from the two militants. Some 53 suspects were also detained during the search operation, the communiqué added.
