ISLAMABAD: A senior official of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has categorically said that no law is being made to give amnesty to protect the offshore assets of the owners and a news in this regard published in an English newspaper is not correct.

The FBR official, requesting not to mention his name, while commenting on the news, said that the Spokesman and Member Land Revenue Policy of FBR Dr Muhammad Iqbal had gone to Dubai for holding talks with the IMF, however, he, in order to cease the romours, categorically said that there was no proposal under consideration to give amnesty to protect offshore assets of the overseas Pakistanis and even FBR was not preparing any draft under Tax Amnesty Act 2017 in this regard.

While mentioning a report published in daily Jang a few weeks ago, he said that Chairman of Tax Reforms Commission Masood Naqvi and his two member colleagues Ishfaq Toala and Shahban during meeting of implementation committee had presented proposal that government should announce tax amnesty for overseas Pakistanis to protect their offshore assets. He said neither FBR nor Finance Ministry was preparing any draft in this regard. He further said that no work was being done on it in FBR.
