Ratio of murders declines by 22pc within two years in Swabi

PESHAWAR: The ratio of murders has reduced by 22 percent while that of attempted-murders declined by 16 per cent in Swabi mainly due to efforts by the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) in the last two years.
According to the performance report of DRCs issued by the office of District Police Officer Swabi, Sohaib Ashraf, the DRCs played a key role in in curbing violent crimes in the district. The report said that 3,934 disputes were referred to the district DRCs since inception in 2015.
During 2015, some 1,174 complaints were forwarded to DRCs while in 2016 the number of complaints received by DRCs increased up to 1,762. Likewise, till March 2017, around 998 complaints were registered with the DRCs.
“The persistent increase in the number of complaints received in DRCs of Swabi is an ample testimony of ever-rising popularity and efficacy of DRCs in amicable resolution of disputes,” Sohaib Ashraf told The News.
Out of the 1,174 complaints received in DRC in 2015, some 994 disputes were resolved. In 2016, as many as 1,253 complaints were addressed by DRCs.“In 2017, some 370 complaints have been disposed of till March. Since their inception, the DRCs Swabi have resolved 2,617 disputes,” said the DPO.
The disputes resolved through DRCs of Swabi district included 897 complaints related to inheritance, 830 domestic disputes, 747 financial disputes and 33 blood feuds. The overall percentage of issues referred and amicably resolved by DRCs of Swabi since their inception to date is more than 66.5 percent and the average time taken for disposal of a complaint was not more than 30 days.
