Govt asked to present workers-friendly budget

MULTAN: The National Labour Alliance has demanded the government present workers-friendly budget otherwise protests will be launched.
It was demanded by NLA chairman Ghazi Ahmad Hassan while addressing a workers gathering at the Punjab government agriculture farm on Wednesday. Ghazi said that the alliance had formed committees at different levels to organise protest rallies and demonstrations. The NLA demands equal rights, perks, education and health facilities for public servants and factory labourers, he informed. He also demanded the federal and provincial governments announce special package for employees in the upcoming budget keeping in view ever increasing inflation. He asked the government to increase at least 50pc salaries in the budget. He said that the budget for the fiscal year 2017-18 would be announced in June but the government had not made an announcement regarding raise in wages and other benefits for the workers. He demanded regularisation of contractual employees of public departments.
MULTAN LITERARY FESTIVAL FROM TODAY: A two-day Multan Literary Festival will begin at the Bahauddin Zakariya University’s Jinnah Hall from today.
Colorful stalls of food and books have been set up for the festival, said organising committee member Prof Dr Sajjad Naeem, while talking to The News here. He said that the Punjab HEC Chairman Prof Dr Nizamuddin would chair the inaugural session.
