Raza, Hania clinch tennis titles
KARACHI: Raza Sawani faced stiff resistance from his final opponent Sahibzada Muhammad Ali before registering triumph in the under-18 event in National Juniors Tennis Championship here at Karachi Gymkhana.
Raza took the first set 7-5 after a tough battle, but Ali leveled arrears easily and was seemingly in a winning position.
After a see-saw battle in the decisive third set, it was eventually Raza who came out of the court victorious by 10-8 score to claim the title.
Hania Naveed proved too good for Sheherzad in girls under-18 final and registered an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 victory.
In the under-16 final, Zubair Raja defeated Noor-e-Mustafa 6-3, 6-1. In the under-14 summit clash, Rayyan Jawad overpowered Aashish Kumer 6-3, 6-3.
Varisha blanked Zehra Fonzil 6-0, 6-0 in the final of girls under-12 event.
In boys under-10 final, Nadir Mirza dropped a set before beating Zain Ethsham 4-1, 3-5, 10-7.
Mahatir Muhammad annexed boys under-12 title to his name when he beat Taha Aman 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
