BAHAWALPUR: Three teams led by SP Investigations Shabbir Sethar have been constituted to arrest the Channi Goth blast, which killed one and injured nine others.
One team is working under Ahmadpur East ASP Mezore Ali Ghauri, while the other is under DSP Organised Crime Rana Naveed Mumtaz. The third one will work under Bahawalpur City DSP Shafqat Atta. The teams would daily report to the SP Investigations. Sources told The News that law-enforcement agencies had arrested 6-7 people having links with banned outfits and they were being interrogated. However, the district police have failed to confirm whether it was a remote control blast or not.
When contacted, a spokesman for the Bahawalpur DPO said that the bomb disposal squad had not given its initial report to the district police. On Saturday morning, the relatives were about to bury the blast victim when a police team reached there and took the body for autopsy. The people have protested against the ‘irresponsible’ attitude of the police, which resulted in a long delay in the burial of the blast victim.
