Fast bowlers put Faisalabad in semi-finals
KARACHI: Fast bowlers did a fine job to put Faisalabad in the semi-finals when they recorded their second successive win, annihilating Hyderabad by an innings and 76 runs on the second day of their Group B game of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Grade-II here at National Stadium on Monday.
After being forced to follow-on, Hyderabad perished for 124 in their second innings.
Fast bowler Naseer Akram got 5-25, for match figures of 7-38.
Mirza Darya Khan and Rizwan Ahmed scored 29 each.
Earlier, in response to Faisalabad’s first innings total of 285, Hyderabad perished for 86 after resuming at seven for two.
Left-arm pacer Samiullah Niazi got 5-30.
In the other show of this group, at Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad, Dera Murad Jamali secured 173 runs lead against Quetta when they scored 294-9 in their first innings in response to their rivals’ 121.
Abdul Rasheed (59), Najeebullah (58) and Abid Ali (51) chipped in with solid fifties.
Sher Ali and Hamal Wahab got three wickets each.
Quetta were 88-3 in their second innings at stumps.
They need 85 more runs to avert innings defeat.
In a Group A show, at Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur, Larkana were 158-7 in their second innings at stumps with an overall lead of 337. They had gained a 79-run lead against Multan.
Hamesh Kumar scored 51 with seven fours.
Ali Usman captured 4-48.
Earlier, in response to Larkana’s first innings total of 227, Multan resumed their innings at 45-3 and were folded for 148. Imran Rafiq hit 59 with eight fours.
Mohammad Urs got 4-28.
At Multan Stadium, Ayaz Tasawar blasted 122 off 167 balls to enable Sialkot to secure lead when they scored 346-9 in their first innings in reply to Bahawalpur’s 222.
Ayaz smashed 13 fours and one six. Ahsan Hafeez Bhatti struck 63.
Bahawalpur were 38-4 in their second innings at close.
Left-arm Test spinner Abdul Rehman and Mohammad Abbas got two wickets each.
