Prevailing system exploiting women’s rights, says Siraj
LAHORE
Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said the prevailing system and the slaves of the colonialists ruling the country are the biggest exploiters of women rights.
Addressing a seminar on “Women Empowerment and Pakistan” on Wednesday, he said feudal lords and capitalists were denying the womenfolk their right of inheritance in properties and bank balances while the NGOs making tall claims of women rights were not sincere for women’s cause and only believed in cosmetic steps to woo the simple women.
Secretary General, JI women wing, Durdana Siddiqui and Begum Samiha Raheel Qazi also addressed the moot. Three JI MPAs in PK Assembly including Dr Riffat were present.
Sirajul Haq said the western societies had not only deprived their women folk of their human rights including love of father, brothers and sons but on the other side, also burdened the women with the responsibility to earn livelihood under the so-called principle of equal rights. Now the west wanted to destroy Islam’s family system by thrusting its satanic civilization on the Muslim counties through their rulers, he said and added the role model for the Muslim women were Syeda Fatimah (RA) and Syeda Aysha (RA) and not Hollywood actresses.
He said if the Pakistani women were derived of their rights, it was mainly because the NGOs talking of women rights simply believed in decorative activities and least concerned with the women rights. He said if the ladies like Sameeha Raheel Qazi and Durdana Siddiqui, were representing the women, nobody could deny them their genuine rights.
Sirajul Haq said the Islamic government of the JI would allocate 51 per cent of the national resources for women in proportion to their population. Besides, it would establish separate universities and educational institutions for women.
It would grant interest free loans to the women for setting up home and cottage industries and also set up their separate counters at railway stations, airports and other public places.
Speech: Punjab University (PU) organised Pakistan Day speech competition on Wednesday.
The theme of the competition was “Role of Women in the Development of Pakistan”. In Urdu speech competition, Usman Aqeel clinched the first position. In English speech contest, Ms Fizza obtained first position.
PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said Pakistan could not progress without women’s active role in society.
Dr Zafar Mueen said women must be empowered. He said the students must play their role in creating awareness about women rights in their areas. He said Quaid-e-Azam had stated, “No nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you.”
Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences Dean Prof Dr Nasira Jabeen, faculty members and students from various public and private universities were also present.
