8 booked for corruption in Gujranwala Region

GUJRANWALA: Anti-Corruption Establishment Gujranwala Region Director Dr Sohail Anwar on Saturday ordered registration of cases against eight government officials and others for corruption.
Anwar filed an application that Irrigation Department sub-engineer Asghar Hussain had received Rs 200,000 bribe from him for irrigating his land. Bashir Ahmed of Hafizabad filed a complaint against patwari Iftikhar Ahmed for taking Rs 139,000 bribe from him for giving him favour in a division of a land. Raja Shabbir Ahmed of Mandi Bahauddin submitted a complaint against patwari Nisar Ahmad that the patwari and his assistant Imtiaz had received Rs 7,000 bribe from him in a case. Zulfiqar Ali of Mari Thakran village filed an application in which he stated that patwari Babar Siddique received bribe from him for transferring his land. The charges against all the accused persons were proved during eth initial inquiries.
MAN SUFFOCATED: A man died while his wife fell unconscious due to suffocation in their room on Noshera Road on Saturday.
Khurram and his wife Sumera, who had contracted marriage recently, were sleeping when they suffocated due to leakage of gas in their room. Later, both were rushed to the DHQ Hospital where Khurram died while Sumera’s condition was critical.
4 human smugglers held

GUJRANWALA: An FIA team on Saturday arrested four alleged human smugglers.
The FIA received information that accused Attiq, Hassan, Zohaib and Habib had opened an office on GT Road for sending people abroad for overseas employment without having licence of it. At this, the FIA team headed by Inspector Shahid Pervaiz raided and arrested the accused persons and recovered five passports and other documents from them. A case has been registered against the accused persons.
