4 workers killed in boiler explosion

FAISALABAD: Four workers were killed while four others seriously injured when the boiler exploded in a spinning mill in the Ghulam Muhammadabad area on Saturday.
After the explosion, the roof of the room where workers were performing their duty collapsed. As a result, Abdul Hameed, Tahir, Asif and an unidentified worker were buried under the debris. Fakhar, Umar, Waheed and Waqas received severe burns and were shifted to Allied Hospital where their condition is stated to be critical. Workers told The News that the boiler was old and no test had been conducted for the last several years. Meanwhile, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal has taken notice of the incident and ordered to seal the factory. A case has been registered against the factory owners. The authorities have launched a probe into the incident. Meanwhile, the DCO and the AC City visited the Allied Hospital and inquired after the health of the injured.

FAISALABAD: Ulema and several religious personalities, including Caritas Pakistan and Inter-faith Diocesan Commission chairman Bishop Joseph Arshad, demanded immediate action against Charlie Hebdo, a French magazine, for publishing blasphemous caricatures. They asked the United Nations and the European Union to form a law under which strict punishment could be awarded to the blasphemers belonging to any religion or sect.
Addressing a press conference at Press Club, Bishop Joseph Arshad, Father Ijaz Hayat, Father Nisar Barkat, Father Iftikhar Moon, Pir Muhammad Ibrahim Sialvi, Maulana Abdul Samad, Maulana Yousaf Anwar, Qari Hanif Bhatti, Hafiz Muhammad Amjad and Allama Ghulam Akbar Saqi strongly condemned the publication of blasphemous caricatures by a French magazine for the second time, saying it had hurt the sentiments of the Muslims across the world. Bishop Joseph Arshad said that the Christian community stood by the Muslim brothers during this hour of distress. He said that the publication of the blasphemous sketches was in fact the misuse of freedom of expression.
