Faisalabad gain lead against Dera Murad Jamali

KARACHI: Faisalabad got a seven-run lead when after scoring 295-8 in their first innings they restricted Dera Murad Jamali to 288-9 in the allotted 83 overs on the second day of their three-day Group B match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Grade-II here at National Stadium on Wednesday.

DM Jamali had resumed their innings at 13 without loss. Imran Khan top-scored with 68, which came off 99 balls. He hit 12 fours. Abid Ali struck 67 with ten boundaries. Najeebullah and Zahoor Khan made 37 runs each. Ahmed Safi and Test pacer Ehsan Adil got two wickets each.

After securing the lead, Faisalabad were 13 without loss in their second innings at close.

In the other show of this group, at Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad, Abbottabad set a stiff target of 400 for Hyderabad who were 18-1 in their second innings at stumps.

Earlier, speedster Ahmed Jamal got 4-28 and Ikramullah captured 3-32 to enable Abbottabad to bowl Hyderabad out for 133 after they resumed their first innings at 78-4 in response to their rivals’ 233. Zeeshan Gul made unbeaten 59, hitting nine fours.

After gaining 100 runs lead, Abbottabad declared their second innings at 299-7 in 54.4 overs to set a daunting target.

In-form first-class cricketer Fakhar Zaman scored 132, which came off 150 deliveries. The young batsman struck 15 fours and two sixes in his superb innings.

All-rounder Kamran Ghulam made 79, in which he hit eight fours and one six. Nasir Khan scored 39. Mohammad Hasnain got 3-46, while off-spinner Nasir Awais claimed 3-89, finishing with 6-173.

At Multan Stadium, in a Group A outing, Multan gained 237 runs lead when they piled up 395-5 in the allotted 83 overs after resuming their first innings at 53 without loss in response to Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) 158 all out.

Experienced opener Zain Abbas (116) and Waqar Hussain (108) slammed superb centuries. Zain hammered 13 fours and a six from 178 balls, while Waqar blasted nine fours from 171 balls. Shehzad Ali (55) and Imran Rafiq (54*) also batted well. Salman Irshad and Khwaja Usman claimed two wickets each.

AJK will begin their second innings on Thursday (today).

At Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur, Larkana were in deep trouble as, after conceding 171 runs lead, against Bahawalpur they were reeling at 190-7 in their second innings, having a lead of only 19.

Asif Babar hammered 93 with 12 fours and three sixes. Mohammad Urs scored 62 with eight fours. Mohammad Imran got 3-54, while Adeel Basit and veteran all-rounder Imranullah Aslam captured two wickets each.

Earlier, in response to Larkana’s first innings total of 193, Bahawalpur began the day at 153-2 and went on to 364-8 in the stipulated 83 overs. Moin-Uddin slammed fine 143, having smashed four sixes and 15 fours. Imranullah (62) and Adeel Basit (61) were the other major contributors. Imtiaz Leghari got 3-89, while Faraz Ahmed and Imran Chandio claimed two wickets each.
