FAISALABAD: Twenty trade bodies have given a 72-hour ultimatum to local police to arrest killers of Sheikh Abdur Rehman, an industrialist, and recover looted goods and cash otherwise they will be forced to observe the shutdown in the city.
Addressing a press conference at Clock Tower, Faisalabad City Anjuman-e-Tajiran president Kh Shahid Razzaq Sakka said that police had failed to control law and order as the crime graph was on the rise for the last several days. Quoting the murder of Sheikh Abdur Rehman during a dacoity in a mill from where Rs 8 million was looted by 10 dacoits wearing police uniform, he said that steps taken by the police were unacceptable and the business community wanted protection for their life and property. He alleged the police deputed at pickets were creating problems for citizens due besides extorting money from them.
Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) president Eng Rizwan Ashraf said that three members of the FCCI, including the slain Abdur Rehman, had been attacked by criminals during last few days. He said that the crime graph had risen during the last few days and it was pity that police had failed to trace even a single case.
FCCI vice-president Nadeem Allahwala and Mehmood Alam Jatt condemned the murder of Sheikh Abdur Rehman and demanded RPO Muhammad Ihsan Tufail and CPO Dr Sohail Habib Tajik to form a high-level team to arrest the culprits. They expressed concern over dacoities and robberies and urged the authorities to take steps to help avoid such incidents in the industrial and commercial city otherwise they would be forced to come on roads.
