The district was in the grip of fear after the administration decided the closure of more than 40 government schools of boys and girls in the city and its adjoining towns, including Paharpur, Parova and Kulachi due to precarious security situation.
The decision was made at a meeting held at the deputy commissioner's office a couple of days back. Senior officials, heads of educational institutions and officials officers of district education department attended the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner Motasim Billah chaired the meeting. Those in the meeting were informed about the prevailing threats and the resources to ensure security arrangements to avert any untoward incident.
At the meeting, the deputy commissioner ordered closure of 41 schools for boys and girls across the district for not having CCTV cameras, barbed wires, security-guards and other necessary requirements.
The deputy commissioner directed the schools headmasters to have a close liaison with the local administration and elected local government representatives to ensure security arrangements and to avert any threat.
The meeting urged the education authorities to remain vigilant and prevent strange and suspected elements from entering the premises of the schools. It may be noted that all most all government colleges and private sector educational institutions remained opened in the district.
