KARACHI: Wildcard entrant Abid Ali Akbar elbowed out favourite Muhammad Abid, while fourth seed Shahzad Khan dispatched second seed Yasir Khan in the men’s singles semi-finals of Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Tournament at PTF Complex in Islamabad on Thursday.
In the first semi-final, Abid beat the top seed Abid in straight sets, recording a 6-2, 6-3 victory to secure an unanticipated place in the summit clash of the tournament.
Shahzad dropped a set before recording a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 triumph against Yasir.
In the ladies singles semi-final, Pakistan No 1 and national champion Sarah Mahboob beat second seed Alina Aftab 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
In the second, Sara Mansoor used pinpoint topspin game to win in style by 6-1, 6-0 against Mahin Aftab.
In under-18 semi-finals, promising youngster Muhammad Muzammil had little problem against Haris Irfan ul Haq and won his match 7-6, 6-1. Muzammil will meet unseeded Mohammad Raza Sawani in the final.
