Mahira’s role in SRK’s Raees chopped down
LAHORE: The latest teaser of Raees has been released and it features Shah Rukh Khan, who urged the fans to catch the trailer launch of the film on Dec 8, whereas the leading lady of the film, Mahira Khan, was nowhere in the scene.
The earlier released teaser also didn’t show Mahira anyway, the latest reports revolving on Indian media told that Mahira’s role in Raees is chopped down to the greater extent. It is also said that this move by the makers of Raees came in as response of the ongoing India-Pakistan relations following the Uri attack.
“Mahira is an attractive and popular Pakistani actress and Raees is her big-ticket Bollywood launch. But while she does play Shah Rukh’s love interest, it is not really a romantic film. Her role is like Parveen Babi’s in Yash Chopra’s 1975 crime-drama Deewaar,” a source said.
“This one revolves around the conflict between Shah Rukh Khan who plays a bootlegger, Raees Alam, and ACP Ghulam Patel enacted by Nawaz (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who is on his trail. So, it wasn’t difficult to trim her role which has been done with the intention of not hurting public sentiment,” the source added.
