PP-78 (Jhang-II) by-polls today
Army, Rangers to be deployed for security

JHANG: On the recommendation of the district returning officer and the DCO, the Election Commission of Pakistan has asked the Pak Army and the Rangers to perform security duty during the by-elections of PP-78 (Jhang-II) to be held here today.
According to a notification issued by the ECP vide No F9 (PP-78) 2016/Elect-I, the army and the Rangers personnel would be deployed inside and outside the polling stations to ensure necessary security arrangements. The notification said that the army and the Rangers officers would have the powers of first class magistrate. The ECP also gave special powers to the army and the Rangers personnel under sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorist Act for ensuring security and to deal with troublemakers during the polling. Meanwhile, Returning Officer Tanveerul Hassan said that 86 polling stations for 118,627 male and 85 polling stations for 97,935 female voters had been established for the PP-78 by-elections. He said that 227 polling booths for male voters and 191 polling booths for female voters had been set up. The RO said that polling material would be transported to polling stations under the security of the army and the Rangers. Meanwhile, DPO Humayun Masood has declared 17 polling stations top sensitive due to security point of view and deployed 2,052 police officials to ensure peace during the by-elections.
