Protest by Haripur varsity employees enters fifth day
HARIPUR: Employees of the University of Haripur continued their protest for the fifth consecutive day on Friday.About 70 employees, including teachers and administrative staff, went on a token strike on Wednesday against the alleged violation of Universities Act. They held negotiations twice with the vice-chancellor but the talks failed. The teachers boycott duties for a token period of two hours daily. However, from Friday they went on complete strike and vowed to continue it till acceptance of demands.
The protesters gathered outside the administration block of the university and later took round of different departments, chanting slogans in favour of their demands. Earlier, the representatives of the protesters held talks with VC Dr Nasir Ali Khan.
They demanded promotion of over 70 employees and inquiry into illegal appointments of those who had failed the test conducted by the National Testing Service for the jobs. The protesters claimed the recent appointments were made in violation of the Universities Act. Meanwhile, the VC denied having committed any wrongdoing and accused some employees of inciting others to protest.
