Kissan package to revolutionise agro-economy
scientifically: minister

BAHAWALPUR: Provincial Minister for Cooperative Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar Tuesday said the Punjab government’s Kissan package would revolutionize rural-based agro-economy on scientific lines.
Addressing a public gathering of farmers at Lal Suhanra, Bahawalpur, the minister said the Kissan Package is a reflection of the Punjab Chief Minister’s attachment with farmers.
Channar said Kissan Package, Safe Water Project and Rural Road Expansion Initiatives would accelerate pace of march towards egalitarian society.
He said the Punjab government has devised a financial mechanism with the collaboration of federal government to extend direct financial subsidy to the farmers under the direction of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Later, Channar inaugurated a new cotton factory project in a private sector.
Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar, Malik Jafar Bhatti, Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar, Fargham Ishtiaq Farri Bhai, Chaudhry Fazal Elahi, Anwer Goraya and a large number of farmers were present on the occasion.
Five dead, 10 hurt in accidents

BAHAWALPUR: Five people were killed while 10 others sustained injuries in separate road accidents here at Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar on Tuesday.
A speeding trailer rammed into a wagon near Nooray Wala Bund on Bahawalnagar-Arifwala Road. As a result, three passengers, Ashraf, Sultan and one unidentified, were killed on the spot while 10 others were injured. In another incident, Kalu and his wife Tasleem Bibi were killed when a wagon hit their bike near Anaiti Morr.
‘GOOD GOVERNANCE MUST PROMOTE MERIT’: Anti-Corruption Establishment Regional Director Syed Tariq Mahmood has said that good governance should be based on promoting merit-oriented and transparent institutional mechanism.
He said this while addressing a seminar at the Government SE College here on Tuesday. The seminar was attended by the college Principal Prof Dr Wali Muhammad, former chamber president Dr Rana Tariq, ACE Deputy Director Faisal Ata, Chaudhry Zahid Majeed, Abid Nisar, Akhtar Bhatti, Rashid Maqbool and others. Tariq Mahmood said that the Punjab government had taken solid and effective policy which would enhance abilities of state institutions to streamline their working. He stressed upon the need to take steps to root out corruption from the society. He urged upon the youth to adhere to their socio-cultural norms, which was critical to establish good governance. He urged upon the all segments of the society to play their constructive and tangible role to wipe out the menace of corruption. Later, a walk was also held under the banner of the ACE Bahawalpur Division, which started from the ACE Regional Office and ended at the Government SE College.
