OKARA: An armyman was killed in a botched kidnap attempt near Cantonment on GT Road on Saturday.
Subedar Tanveer, Sepoy Abdul Malik and Aamir Shahzad came to Al-Jihad Bus Stop to receive some family members. They were returning home after receiving the family members when five people tried to take away the car with the riders. The kidnappers opened fire on them when Tanveer offered resistance. As a result, Sepoy Abdul Malik was injured and died on the way to hospital. The Cantonment police have registered a case under sections 302, 511 and 365 of the PPC and 7ATA.

OKARA: Three dacoits were killed in an encounter with the police near Bahripur Village on Depalpur-Haveli Lakkha Road on Friday night.
DPO Faisal Rana told The News that three dacoits had snatched a motorcycle (LEX-2160) at gunpoint near Mancharian Village and fled towards Quaid-e-Azam Chowk. He said that the Depalpur police reached the spot, chased and intercepted the dacoits. “On seeing the police, the dacoits opened fire on them. The police also retaliated and the encounter continued for an hour. As a result, three dacoits were killed,” he said.
The DPO disclosed that the dacoits were identified as Ikram alias Akri, Bilal alias Bali and Khurram alias Khurmi. He said that weapons and the snatched motorcycle were received from the dacoits. He said that a case had been registered against the dacoits under sections 324, 353, 427, 186 of the PPC and 7ATA. Meanwhile, no one has contacted the police to receive the bodies.
