CHAKWAL: All arrangements have been finalised to hold the LG reserved seats elections in the district.
Elections for 15 reserved seats of women, four of minorities, three of peasants, one of youths and one of technocrats of the District Council will be held on November 15.
Total 71 members of the District Council will cast their votes. The main political LG force - Sardar Ghulam Abbas group – has recently joined the PML-N. The group had 22 seats of UC chairmen in the LG elections held on October 31 last year. The PML-N has the support of 39 members in the District Council. The PTI has won five seats of UC chairmen while the PML-Q has also won the same number of seats in the LG elections.
Two groups of the PML-N have fielded their candidates for one peasant seat. Malik Feroz Khan is backed by Special Assistant to CM Malik Saleem Iqbal while Iqrar Haider is fielded by MNA Sardar Mumtaz Tumman. MPA Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan is also backing Iqrar Haider. A keen contest is expected on this seat.
Meanwhile, elections for reserved seats of six municipal committees will be held on November 17 and of 71 UCs on November 19.
