Poverty alleviation linked to rural development

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Saturday opened an agricultural and textile exhibition as part of its ongoing six-day Rabi Festival that would continue till November 7.
The exhibition was inaugurated by UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. The exhibition was having more than 100 stalls that remained a centre of attraction for the people, who thronged here in droves to have the delight of the expo.
Speaking on the occasion, the vice-chancellor said that the country was passing through the multiple challenges, including food insecurity, water issue and unemployment. He said that the festival was meant to provide a platform to the farming community, common man, scientists, academia, industry and policymakers to sit together and to find out the way to jack up the agricultural production. He said that academia-industry linkage would resolve the issues. He stressed the need for development of rural areas as the poverty alleviation was directly linked to it.
Faculty of Agriculture Dean Dr Amjad Aulakh, Dr Zahir Ahmad Khan and others also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Punjab agriculture secretary will address a farmers convention at the UAF at 10am today.
