From Our Correspondent
MULTAN: The NAB regional directorate has appointed investigation officers to launch inquiries against the Food and Revenue departments officials for their alleged involvement in embezzlement and cheating farmers during distribution of bardana and wheat procurement process, the NAB officials said.
The NAB officials said that the regional directorate had received complaints that the Food and Revenue departments’ officials in connivance with others were engaged in receiving millions of rupees from farmers during distribution of bardana and wheat purchase process. They said that the complainants alleged that the officials were paying lesser amount to poor farmers than the official rate per wheat bag and were collecting 1kg to 2kg extra wheat on each bag of 1,000kg so they embezzled millions of rupees in every district. Later, the NAB officials added, during the initial probe, allegations were established and the NAB regional board under the command of NAB Director General Farooq Nasir Awan appointed IOs to probe into the corruption of officials of the Food and Revenue departments. The record of last five years of four districts, Multan, Lodhran, Vehari and Khanewal, would be checked during the inquiry. Meanwhile, the NAB DG said that the NAB Multan was following the zero tolerance against corruption policy of NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman. He said that all culprits would be dealt with iron hands found guilty in the inquiry.
