Aqeel, Abid enter tennis tourney final
KARACHI: Top seed Aqeel Khan and second seed Muhammad Abid cruised into the final of men’s singles event of the first Chairman POF Board National Ranking Tennis Championships 2016 at the Ordinance Club in Wah Cantt.
In the first semi-final, Aqeel displayed quality tennis throughout the match. He won the first set 6-1. In the second set, the score reached 3-3 but Aqeel eventually prevailed by 6-4.
He closed out the third set also by 6-4 to win the match and confirm his presence in the final.
In the second semi-final, Abid defeated Muzammil Murtaza after a marathon encounter. Eighth seed Muzammil took the first 6-4 and it looked he will down another top seed but Abid made a strong comeback and eventually recorded a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Meanwhile, Hamid Israr won the title of Boys Under-10 event by beating Hamza Roman in straight sets 4-1, 4-1.
