About 100 nominations rejected by ROs

GUJRANWALA: Scrutiny process of nomination papers for elections on local government reserved seats has been completed in the district. According to the election commission spokesman, about 100 nomination papers have been rejected by the returning officers due to different reasons. The candidates, whose nomination papers were rejected, can file appeals against rejections till October 20.

Order issued to arrest five govt officials

GUJRANWALA: Anti-Corruption Establishment Director Rana Abdul Shakoor has ordered registration of a case against a Patwari and arrest of five government officials, including two building inspectors, on the charges of corruption and misuse of powers. In their applications, the people alleged that Patwari Malik Tassaduq Hussain had received Rs 33,000 bribe for issuance of Fard, while building inspectors Azhar Cheema and Hasnain Haider, Patwaris Naseer Ahmad and Rizwan and Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar received bribe and misused powers. In preliminary inquiries, the allegations against them were found correct.
Dacoits on the rampage

GUJRANWALA: Dacoits looted cash, gold ornaments, cell phones and other valuables in 15 incidents here on Tuesday.Three dacoits entered the house of Abdul Waheed at Sohdra and looted Rs 32,000, gold ornaments and other valuables. Bandits snatched Rs 7,000 and a motorcycle from Rizwan at Wazirabad and looted cash and a cell phone from Pervez at Alipur Chatha. Ghulam Abbas and his wife were deprived of valuables Tatle Wali while robbers looted Rs 15,000 and two cell phones from Haris. Usman and his wife were deprived of cash, gold ornaments and cell phones at the same location while armed men intercepted a couple at Wahndo and looted gold ornaments and two cell phones. Asif was deprived of Rs 35,000 and a cell phone while bandits looted Rs 10,000 and a cell phone from Azam at Emenabad. Dacoits took away applied for motorcycle and Rs 10,000 from Abid at Cantt while dacoits looted cash and cell phone from Nazia at Kotwali. Armed men intercepted Arshad, Iqbal and Ali Ahmed at Peoples Colony and snatched Rs 20,000 and four cell phones from them. Thieves stole the bike of Tauqir while dacoits looted cash and other valuables from the houses of Kaleem, Aman and Akhtar.
MAN DIES ON ROAD: A man died in a road accident here on Tuesday.Sufyan, son of Muhammad Arshad, was on his way on a rickshaw when a speeding truck hit the rickshaw near university campus. As a result, Sufyan died on the spot.
