PHC orders security for couple
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the provincial police chief to provide security to a couple who have contracted love marriage. Abdullah from Lahore had married an Afghan woman Maimona alias Amina presently living in Afghan refugee camp in the Kohat district on August 25.
As per police report, father of the Afghan girl, Amir Muhammad, lodged first information report on August 27 at the City Police Station in Kohat. He claimed that the woman was already married to one Abdul Rehman.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Roohul Amin Khan and Justice Syed Afsar Shah ordered the couple to submit the bail bonds with high court registrar instead of district court due to security reasons and life threats to them as the district court had issued their release order on bail.
After the arrest, Shamim Ayub, mother of the young man, filed a bail petition for the couple and the district court in Kohat issued their release order on bail. However, she also filed a petition in the high court seeking their security as due to threats no one submitted bail bonds in the Kohat courts.
Malik Muhammad Ajmal, the petitioner’s lawyer submitted before the bench that both had tied the knot of freewill. He said father of the girl had wrongly charged the couple as the girl claimed she was not married to another man. She said that she had married Abdullah of her freewill.
The lawyer informed the court that there was a life threat to both the man and the woman and the bail bonds should be submitted with registrar of the high court. He prayed to the court to direct the police to provide security to the couple.
