Shahid Afridi wins in tennis tourney
KARACHI: Pakistan cricket star Shahid Afridi’s namesake recovered from a set down and beat his opponent Talha bin Asif in men’s singles first round in 1st Chairman POF Board National Ranking Tennis Championships at Ordinance Club in Wah Cantt.
Afridi dropped the first set 6-7(3) but made a strong comeback and eventually recorded a 6-7(3), 6-3, 7-6(1) victory.
Muhammad Abid, Raja Shahid, Abbas Khan, Barkatullah, Arham Atiq and Shahzad Khan also moved into the second round.
In under-18 singles event, Hafiz Arbab Ali and Haider Ali Khan got walkover. In men’s singles bottom-half first round, Muhammad Abid beat Brig. Allah Nawaz 6-1, 6-2; Raja Shahid beat Hamid ul Haq 4-6, 6-1, 6-3; Abbas Khan beat Tahirullah Khan 6-1, 6-2; Barkatullah beat Yousaf Khan 6-4, 4-6, 6-3; Shahid Afridi beat Talha Bin Asif 6-7(3), 6-3, 7-6(1); Arham Atiq beat Israr Gul 6-1, 6-2; Shahzad Khan beat Usman Ejaz 6-2, 6-0.
