WMDP employees strike

OKARA: On the call of the All Punjab Water Management Employees Association, the contract employees of the Water Management Department Punjab (WMDP) went on strike in favour of their demands at Tehsil Renala Khurd.
The protesters’ leaders, Rana Shahbaz, Muhammad Anwar, Hafiz Afzal and Muhammad Anwar, told media that the WMDP employees had been working on contract basis for the last 12 years and no government or departmental authority regularise them. They told that 1,800 employees had been working under the Agriculture Water Management for the last 12 years but no authority took pain for them. They demanded the authorities take notice of their issue.

Mirza Yaseen was harvesting paddy crop when his hands touched electricity wires hanging down from an electric pole. As a result, he received electric shocks and died on the spot. Later, villagers protested against the Lesco and demanded action against the negligent officials.
