ECP announces schedule for elections to reserved seats

GUJRANWALA: The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced schedule for elections to special seats of Local Government.
According to the schedule, candidates can submit their nomination papers on October 14 and 15 while scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on October 17 and 18. Appeals against rejection of nomination papers will be submitted on October 20 while the final list of candidates will be issued on October 25.
According to the notification, polling for municipal corporation and district council seats will be held on November 8, for municipal committees seats on November 10 and polling for special seats of union councils on November 11. In the municipal corporation, there are 15 seats for women, two for labour, four for non-Muslims, two for technocrats and one for youth. In the district council, there are 15 seats for women, three for labour, five for non-Muslims, one for technocrat and one for youth. Meanwhile, the ECP has appointed 124 returning officers and 247 assistant returning officers for conducting the elections. As many as 31 returning officers and 62 assistant returning officers have been appointed for polling in Gujranwala district, 26 returning officers and 52 assistant returning officers for Gujrat district, 25 returning officers and 50 assistant returning officers for Sialkot district, 16 returning officers and 32 assistant returning officers for Narowal district, 15 returning officers and 30 assistant returning officers for Mandi Bahauddin district and 11 returning officers and 21 assistant returning officers for Hafizabad district. All the candidates have been told that their previous nomination papers had been cancelled and they should resubmit their nomination papers for contesting the elections.
YOUTH KILLED ON ROAD: A 17-year-old youth was killed in an accident at Sialkot Bypass on Tuesday. Kashif was on his way when a vehicle hit his motorcycle. As a result, Kashif was killed on the spot.
Man kills sister, injures her husband for love marriage

GUJRANWALA: A man allegedly gunned down his sister and injured her husband for contracting love marriage at Jaboki on Tuesday.
Shahzad had contracted love marriage with Tanzeela, a resident of Sohawa Dhilwan, against the wish of her brother Qamar. On the day of the incident, Qamar came to the house of his sister Tanzeela and allegedly shot her dead. The accused also injured her husband Shahzad. The injured man was shifted to the DHQ Hospital. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
