Conspiracies being hatched against democracy again, says Achakzai
Asks PM to summon joint parliament sitting; urges govt to write letter to Canada against Tahirul Qadri
ISLAMABAD: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahamood Khan Achakzai on Friday said a conspiracy was being hatched against democracy and the Pakistan government should write a letter to the government of Canada regarding the activities of Chairman Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahirul Qadri.
Talking to the media outside the Parliament House, he said the government should call a joint sitting of parliament to draw a strategy for foiling the conspiracy of enemies in future. He said Dr Tahirul Qadri was a Canadian citizen and like Altaf Hussain, Qadri was also working against the interests of the country. He said during the sit-in, workers of PAT attacked the state-run television, halted its transmission and beat its staff.
Achakzai said that enemies were working against Pakistan and it was the responsibility of the political leadership to counter them effectively by unveiling their nefarious designs before the nation. He urged the political parties for forging unity among their ranks and for working together for smooth continuity of the democratic process in the country. — APP
INP adds: Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House here on Friday, Mehmood Achakzai said that earlier Qadri took to the streets over the issue of death of 12 people in the Model Town tragedy and now he was again instigating his followers to come on the roads against parliament and democracy.
He said that parliament was not merely an institution but the representative of 200 million people, adding during the ensuing protests, it was feared that the participants would try to make parliament a hostage.
The PkMAP chief condemned the Peshawar and Mardan terrorist attacks in strong terms and stressed that masses should also come forward to wage a war against terrorism as security forces or the government solely cannot succeed to overcome the menace of extremism.
