Lady teacher demands restoration of salary

JHANG: A senior female government schoolteacher has demanded the authorities restore her monthly salary which has been withheld by the District Accounts Office.
Mrs Nasim Akhtar, 59, who is going to retire next year and is serving as acting headmistress of the Government Girls High School Basti Ghazi Shah Bagh, told that on the order of EDO Education, she arranged a function to educate hygienic and cleanliness activities among girls students with the help of an NGO at the school but she refused to call an influential local landlord and recently elected politician at the school as the chief guest. The teacher claimed that after the function, she was suspended on the landlord’s alleged complaint. She mentioned that she filed departmental appeal before the DCO and did not leave her post till decision of her appeal. Mrs Nasim alleged that the landlord wanted to appoint a junior teacher of her school at her place. She alleged that the school withheld her monthly pay to pressurise her for withdrawal from her appeal. Later, she added, the District Accounts Office stopped pay of her. Later, she rejoined her job as the AEO in a rural area to get her pay restore. She alleged that the DAO once again stopped her pay. When contacted, DAO II Malik Altaf told The News that he was informed by his clerk that the EDO Education had directed to stop pay of the said lady teacher. He said that after examining the file of the lady teacher, necessary directions had already been issued to the concerned clerk to release pay of the lady teacher. On the other hand, EDO Education Nasim Zahid said that he did not issue directions to the DAO to stop pay of the lady teacher. As she had joined her new office, she had been allowed to get her pay from new station, he added.
