Zardari for PanamaLeaks probe on opposition’s TORs
LONDON: The Co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Asif Ali Zardari, stated on Sunday that the Terms of References (TORs) proposed by the opposition on an investigation into the Panama Papers issue were effective and constitutional, adding that the investigation of the matter needs to take place at all costs.
The former president met with Senator Babar Awan in London on Sunday as both had discussions on the current political situation of the country and an investigation into the PanamaLeaks issue.
Babar Awan briefed the PPP co-chairman about the stand of the opposition parties and the lawyers regarding the PanamaLeaks issue. He said that accountability should be held against every corrupt person because the process of democracy and government cannot be run without accountability.
Asif Zardari stated that opposition’s TORs were not only effective but were constitutional as well. He said that the probe into PanamaLeaks issue should be done as per opposition's TORs. He also announced that PPP will celebrate year of PPP golden jubilee from November 2016 to November 2017.
On the other hand PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) not to take the Panama Papers issue to the Supreme Court (SC) if the party has decided that it shall hit the roads against the investigation of the matter and will initiate a movement. Aitzaz also stated that PPP shall not head to the SC regarding the Panama Papers.
