Huzaifa wins Japan Junior Squash Open
KARACHI: Pakistan’s Huzaifa Ibrahim won the Japan Junior Squash Open (AJSS Silver Event) in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday.
Huzaifa, Asian number one in under-11 category, who was un-seeded in this event, overpowered Greg Chan 11-5, 11-5, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7 in the final of under-13 category.
“Greg was a very tough opponent but Huzaifa proved his mettle and won this title in a wonderful manner,” said Huzaifa’s coach Usama Khan.
He added that Huzaifa was an under-12 player but was placed in this event in a higher age category. “This is very encouraging that Huzaifa has started winning tough events,” said Usama.
Usama said Huzaifa, whose department is Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), trained hard for this event. “We are planning to send him to different international events,” added Usama.
Huzaifa is top player in Asia in under-11 category. He has won Doha Open and Qatar Open this year.
