SC should install interim govt to save country: Musharraf
ISLAMABAD: All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has called upon the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan to install an interim government to save the country, and allow it to make changes to the Constitution.
Speaking in a private channel programme here on Thursday, Musharraf said that solution to country’s problems could only ensure internal security. He said that he could have built Kalabagh Dam (KBD) during his first three years of rule, but he could not do so due to 9/11 incident, and later on the political government fell prey to political considerations. He said that initial work on Bhasha Dam was completed in 2006, and it would have been completed until now if work would have been continued on it.
Musharraf said he wanted to return to the country to rid the country of the current crises, but he had been implicated in politically motivated cases. He said he wanted the courts to provide him justice.
He said he had some turncoats, who used to speak ill of Nawaz Sharif. “But now they are with Nawaz Sharif and vilify me,” Musharraf added. Musharraf said his party, APML, would take part in the upcoming general elections.
He said making Raheel Sharif Field Marshal would not serve the purpose, and he should stay as the Chief of Army Staff at the same time. Musharraf said he reached an agreement with Nawaz Sharif on pursuance of Shah Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, but later on Nawaz even refused to admit that any agreement was signed between them. He said the USA was interested only in making Benazir Bhutto prime minister with him as the president.
Musharraf said Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri were making efforts for a change in the country but they didn’t enjoy support of masses. He said Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari and other political leaders like them were busy in safeguarding their personal interests instead of the country. He said such politicians use Ayyan Ali like people, who fall prey to their tactics; sometimes are murdered or sent to jails.
Musharraf said India was using Brahamdagh like traitors to raise the issue of Sindh and Balochistan in American Congress, but nobody was there to stop them. He said the government was non-serious to solve the problems of the country, and the army alone could not do anything.
Musharraf said he had nothing personal with former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. The reference against him was a constitutional matter and all government people at that time were in favour of filing it. He said he wanted to run the government peacefully, but infighting was going on between Mir Zafarullah Jamali and the Chaudhrys over presidentship of the PML-Q. He said Mir Zafarullah Jamali is a good man but it did not mean that every good man could run a government successfully.
