Society to be purged of corruption: Siraj
LAHORE
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has warned that some elements want to change the direction of the current public movement against corruption but stressed that the masses would not allow that.
JI would carry out its drive against corruption to its logical end in order to cleanse society of the biggest menace, he said while talking to the media after chairing a meeting of JI’s central office-bearers at Mansoora on Wednesday.
Sirajul Haq noted that JI campaign against corruption was launched long before the Panama Leaks and so far the JI had held dozens of public meetings besides a train march and its drive was continuing in full force. He said some other parties had also decided to start their protest against corruption during the current month and said they had the right to take decisions independently. Sirajul Haq said August was the month of Pakistan’s independence and a time to celebrate. However, he said, nation would have to start another movement in order to get rid of the corrupt ruling clique.
He said corrupt elements during the three previous governments had plundered national wealth with both hands and transferred it abroad, and reaffirmed the resolve that JI would go to any extent for the recovery of the looted wealth. He said the day on which the audit of present rulers and the two previous ones was completed would be the day of real joy and independence for the nation. Referring to Kashmir issue, Sirajul Haq alleged that non-serious and ambiguous attitude of the government on Kashmir issue was astonishing. He said Indian occupation forces had killed tens of thousands of innocent Kashmiris and put unspecified number of youth in secret detention camps in miserable conditions. The occupation troops were raping Kashmiri women, and even torturing them with batons and pulling them on roads and such scenes on the social media were heartrending to say the least.
He said immediately after the martyrdom of Muzaffar Wani, the government should have convened an international conference and apprised the world community of India’s state terrorism in Held Kashmir. Meanwhile, JI secretary-general Liaqat Baloch has criticised the government for refraining from holding national census and violating its constitutional duty towards the nation. Talking to a delegation from Balochistan headed by provincial general secretary Hidayatur Rahman at Mansoora, he said census was the constitutional duty of the government but different governments had been violating the constitution by failing to discharge this duty. Liaqat Baloch said census was essential for elections and also for fair distribution of national resources among the provinces on the basis of population. He appreciated the directive of Balochistan chief secretary for giving Urdu the status of official language and its enforcement in the government offices within one month.
