NAWABSHAH: A policeman was killed while another injured when a gang of terrorists ambushed a police picket near Nawabshah on Thursday.
The unidentified armed men ambushed a police picket near Bandhi Railway gate and opened fire, killing policeman Abdul Qayyum Rajput on the spot. Another policeman on duty Abdul Fattah Shehwani was seriously injured in the attack. The terrorists also carried away official Kalashnikovs and rounds of martyred and injured policemen. The injured policeman Abdul Fattah was admitted to the Peoples Medical Hospital in a precarious condition.
SSP Pervez Umrani said that police have cordoned off the entire area after the attack on the police picket and mounted a hunt for the terrorists.The funeral prayers of martyred policeman Abdul Qayyum was offered at the Police Ground, which was attended by DC Tahir Hussain Sangi, SSP Pervez Umrani, Commandant Indus Rangers Col Shahid, district officials and relatives of the deceased.
The SSP said that serious notice has been taken of the attack on the police post in the district and teams have been formed to find out motives of the attack and hunt terrorists.
