National Women Hockey Championship from August 5
KARACHI: The 29th edition of National Women Hockey Championship will begin from August 5 at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium in Islamabad.
The participating teams are WAPDA, Railways, Army, HEC, Punjab Colours, Punjab Whites, Sindh Colours, Sind Whites, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan and Islamabad.
WAPDA are the defending champions. Railways finished runners up in the last edition.
The teams are divided into two pools. The top two sides will qualify for the semi-finals.
The event will serve as trials for the next assignment of the national team.
Pakistan will be featuring in 4th Women’s Asian Hockey Federation Cup in Bangkok to be held from October 1 to 9.
The selection committee comprising Olympians Saleem Sherwani and Mussadiq Hussain and Chand Parveen will be watching the girls in action.
Saeed Khan and M Usman, who have been named manager and coach, respectively, for the national women team, will also observe the matches.
Federal Minister of Inter Provincial Coordination Riaz Pirzada is expected to be the chief guest for the final of the tournament.
