Four Highways Dept officers held in corruption case

GUJRANWALA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment has arrested four officers of the Highways Department in a corruption case.
Talking to newsmen here on Monday, ACE Regional Director Rana Abdul Shakoor said that the action was taken on an application of Ashraf Mir in which he alleged that substandard material was used in construction of Kamoke-Ghumanwala Road. The complainant further said that the road started deteriorating soon after completion. The ACE director said that the allegations found correct during a preliminary inquiry and a case was registered against SE (retd) Kaleemullah, XEN (retd) Saadat Virk, overseer Khalid Cheema, divisional accounts officer Liaqat Ali, XEN Zeeshan Butt, XEN Ejaz Cheema, SDO Tariq Cheema, SE Ashfaq Ahmad and others. He said that the DCO had also recommended action against the accused officers on an application given to him by the applicant. He said that the officers arrested were SE (retd) Kaleemullah, XEN (retd) Saadat Virk, overseer Khalid Cheema and divisional accounts officer Liaqat Ali. He said that raids were being constructed to arrest the remaining accused.
