Mardan govt colleges show poor HSSC results
MARDAN: Despite the provincial government’s claims about bringing change in the education sector, students of the state-run colleges in Mardan region couldn’t clinch top positions in the intermediate examination 2016 conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mardan.
Majority of the parents of the students studying at government colleges aren’t satisfied with the performance of the colleges. The Mardan board announced the results of the intermediate examinations on July 22.
Only one female student of a government college has topped the Arts Group in the region. Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, provincial Education Minister Mohammad Atif Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and other elected members claim that the government has improved standard of education at government-run colleges.
According to the results of Mardan board, the students of government colleges showed poor performance like that of secondary school certificate exam results.
According to the board’s intermediate results, Karnal Sher Khan Cadet College Swabi gained 14 positions, the Quaid-e-Azam School and College System operating in Mardan and Swabi district, owned by Asad Qaiser gained eight positions while the Peace School and College System gained seven positions.
The government-run colleges failed to win any of the top 20 positions and their pass percentage remained less than 50 percent despite spending billion rupees of funds and hiring of qualified teachers.
None of the students of government colleges has succeeded to gain position in the top 20 list in the Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering groups while in arts group Lubna Hussain of the Government Girls Degree College Hoti gained 882 marks and got first position.
According to the board results, 31,551 students appeared in the intermediate examination and of them 24,018 were declared passed while overall result was 76.12 percent.
Earlier, students of government-run schools in Mardan region also showed poor performance in the SSC examination-2016 conducted by BISE Mardan and the result was announced on June 15.
