QUETTA: Three people belonging to the Hazara community and a policeman were killed and a woman was injured in an apparent sectarian attack here on Monday while the manager of a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in Jinnah Town.
Police said that the firing incident took place at the Joint Road outside the passport office where terrorists opened fire at the people present on the spot.Three persons including two real brothers Hassan Hazara and Shabir Hazara and a cop Kala Khan died on the spot while a woman sustained serious wounds.
The assailants managed to flee after committing the triple murder. The injured woman was rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment. Meanwhile, the manager of a local NGO was shot dead by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle.
The gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at a car, which resulted in fatal injuries to the NGO manager, who could not be identified immediately. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The police cordoned off the area after the incident but no arrest was made.
Staff members of the NGO staged a protest outside the hospital against the killing of their manager and failure of the police to arrest the assailants.PPP Co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the attack on innocent Hazara people and termed it target killing.
In a statement, the former president condemned the killing of three innocent Hazara people and called this attack a cowardly act of terrorists. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and for bringing them to book. He also prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and strength and fortitude to bereaved families to bear this loss with equanimity.
Meanwhile, a man was injured in a landmine explosion in Tehsil Chithar area of Nasirabad district. According to the police, the victim, identified as Riaz Hussain, was working in his fields in the Manzoor Ahmad Goth area when he hit a planted landmine that went off. He received wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical aid.Security forces cordoned off the entire area and started efforts to trace out the suspects.
