‘IT has changed Thana culture’
From Our Correspondent
MULTAN: Multan police have taken a lead in adopting information technology by setting up innovative and state-of-the-art regional complaint centre, which is fully centralised and computerised, said Regional Police Officer Sultan Azam Taimuri.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that utilisation of information technology in police system had changed the Thana culture. He said that the android application had been linked and interconnected with the IGP Complaint Cell, Police Helpline 15, front desks established at police stations and Rescue 1122. He said that citizens could contact police officials through a single click from their mobile phone. He said that android-based smart phones usage had been launched for recording and documenting crimes. The new system would help police officials to record crime even when they were away from their police stations, the RPO said, adding that the data stored in devices would be uploaded to the main dashboard at an operation room, which had been set up in the Multan Regional Police Headquarters. He said that android phones would also help check location of police officials and they would be monitored on screens at the operation room. RPO Sultan Azam Taimuri said that android application could be downloaded from Google Apps Store.
He said that the complainants could submit their complaints at phone No 061-6306707 and through social media at https://twitter.com/rpo_multan, https://facebook.com/rpomultanofficial and WhatsApp No 0300-0722722. He said that the people could also send their complaints through email at rpomultan.cc@gmail.com, fax 061-6306707 or www.rpomultan.punjabpolice.gov.pk. He said that decision of setting up front desks in the police stations was a commendable step, which would not only improve efficiency of police and raise its image but also resolve problems of the people. He said that they had so far received 1,341 complaints through online system. When a complainant approached the regional complaint centre, a policeman drafted a complaint and sent it to the police station concerned through android application, email and WhatsApp, he said, adding that all the police stations were bound to respond to the complaints and submit progress reports on them. He said that there was no room for ineligible policemen in the department.
